Our Heritage began in 1935

Nowgem Jewellers is a family-run heritage business from Sri Lanka with a legacy that spans over a century. Our story began in 1935 when our founder, Saly Mohamed Jabir, entered the gem industry. He created a sense of trust and loyalty by approaching clients differently and sincerely addressing their individual needs. He even travelled overseas to personally meet clients in the US, Europe, and Japan.

A New Era

In 1984, Saly's eldest son, Nowfel Saly Jabir, took over the business and established Nowgem Jewellers as a signature brand. He began crafting stunning jewelry using Sri Lankan gems, marketing the beauty of Sri Lanka and its priceless treasures. Nowfel also steered the business into the new virtual territory of online trading. He led the Sri Lanka Gem Traders Association as president and introduced the FACETS show in 1990, which is now the largest annual gems and jewelry exhibition in Sri Lanka.

Ceylon Sapphires

We specialize in Ceylon Sapphires that are locally fossicked and hand-cut by our expert gem cutters. These sapphires are renowned for their vivid blue color, which is lighter and brighter than other blue sapphires. Some of the world's most famous sapphires, including the Logan Sapphire and the Star of India, have come from Sri Lanka. In addition to blue, you can also find pink, yellow, green, and violet sapphires in Sri Lanka.
